The first round begins with a flash of brilliant blue light as Ezeran eliminates all 4 Canaries from the field of battle.  They will not be singing any songs today.  Tolard learns that it is not always wise to favor strength over safety as he is knocked unconscious by the ferocious hammer like wingbeats of the feral Hen.  Lucky for the rest of them the crazed bird flees the battle, before anyone else can be drummed down.  This leaves the final three heroes to face off against the terror of the Scarecrow.  The young knight and clever thief learn learn why these things are the tales of knightmares.  Petaldan shakes in terror, while Hunkan cowers behind an especially dense path of stalks.  Kid struggles through the fear to land a light blow against the creature.  It would seem straw is rather resilient against arrows.

All four heroes rally around their fallen brother, dealing blow after blow to the demonic scarecrow. Hunkan manages to sneak up behind the beast and deal a series of blows while looking for his purse. Too bad the scarecrow is broke.

Hunkans Blood turns to ice water and his bowls to milk as the scarecrow swivels its head to look down into his eyes. This distraction allows his three companions to put all of their might into three crippling blows.

While it appeared that the heroes could do no wrong, dealing blow after blow to the horrific beast the fates are fickle and the tide turns for one of them. While attempting to take another shot with his Crowwbow the mechanism jams leaving Kidd open to a vicious strike by the scarecrow. He falls to the ground Unconscious. The scarecrow reals under the attacks of the other three warriors, but it is too late for the young ranger.
